What changed since ArcheAge — the cuts, in the studio’s words

Territorial conquest, mass PvP and player-built cities are gone. Trade runs, housing and crafting stay, rescaled. Every change quoted and dated.

ArcheAge Chronicles is not a sequel to ArcheAge and the studio keeps saying so. This page lists what was removed, what was kept, and the reason given for each — with the date of the statement.

In short

Territorial conquest, mass PvP and player-built cities are gone. Trade runs, housing and crafting stay, rescaled. Every change quoted and dated.

01What was removed

Mass PvP and territorial conquest. Wccftech, introducing its August 2025 interview, writes that the game “has deliberately removed any mass PvP and territorial conquest elements to appeal to a PvE audience”, and the team confirms those systems “didn’t translate well to our new direction”.

Player-built cities. Asked directly about building towns with guildmates, the team answered that it is not offering “full player-built cities or territory control in the traditional MMO sense”, and named the reason: avoiding “the land rush issues that created frustration in the past”.

Raid-scale trade convoys. Trade runs remain, but “rather than being built around large raid groups or PvP blockades”.

02What was kept, and rescaled

Housing, crafting, lifeskills and trade all return. The developer diary of 10 October 2024 promises the familiar mechanisms — “wagons, carts, and creating trade goods to sell in different regions” — with new variables in transport.

The scale changed everywhere. The executive producer wrote on 31 July 2025 that the shared world is “more intimate. Smaller group sizes. Meaningful cooperation.” Instanced content is built for two to five players; twenty-player raids exist, but in the open world.

03Why it changed

The stated cause is the combat system. Action combat was chosen first, and the systems that did not fit it were cut rather than adapted. That is the single thread running through every answer the studio has given since 2024, and it is why these cuts are unlikely to be reversed later.

We've retained familiar trade mechanisms from the past, such as using wagons, carts, and creating trade goods to sell in different regions, but with a twist.

So yeah… this isn't ArcheAge 2. It's not a traditional MMORPG. What we're making is a discovery-driven online action RPG.
